Totally spent. Cooked.
That was the recurring feeling of all our riders after a massive weekend of racing at the Canberra Junior’s and Women’s Tour. #cjwt19
Simone Grounds 👹 led the #DhuezWomen and held the yellow leader’s jersey for the first 3 stages. She won the ITT and held a lead going into the final stage but unfortunately the climbs proved too much at the end of a long weekend. With large time gaps beginning to appear, Simone was still able to drive a select bunch to the end of the race and held onto 3rd overall which was a magnificent success individually and for the team.
Nadia Younan was also impressive in the ITT where she picked up 2nd on the stage and looked set for a big weekend but was then hampered by injury. Despite being out of contention, she battled on determinedly for the team in an effort to help wherever possible. #kudos
Emma Bunn also rode a terrific support role all weekend and continues to improve in leaps and bounds. #notjustatrackie
Aiden Sinclair was in the mix of the U17 event all weekend and made an aggressive move on the early slopes of the Stage 3 road race. Unfortunately having established a gap, he was unable to hold on over the later hills and slipped back to finish with the bunch on the stage. He continued to attack in vain on the final criterium stage and finished in 5th overall on GC to complement a 3rd place in the KOM classification. Congratulations on a solid effort from our youngest rider.
Luke Deasey also had a successful weekend and finished 5th overall in the U19 division. After a frustrating start in the ITT where he gave his main rivals more time than expected, he was left to play catch-up for the rest of the Tour. However, his never-die attitude and willingness to keep attacking allowed him to achieve a pleasing result with plenty of potential for improvement in the future.
Well done team!
