Venue: Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek
After a frustrating run of luck in recent outings, Brendan Buhagiar finally got a race to suit and he left nothing to chance as he got into a break and then out-sprinted his fellow escapee to take the win in Div 2 of The Odd Spoke Cup. He has been working extremely hard with coach Mick Curran and this success shows that if you put the work in, improvement happens.
Nadia Younan was also agonisingly close to a win in the Div 1 Womens race but probably chose the wrong wheel to follow in the sprint and ended up leading out the other riders. She was just beaten into 4th on the line but takes plenty of experience and another lesson learnt from the race.
And in Div 1, Nate Bonarius and Jordan Ross had another aggressive day instigating plenty of attacks and being in and around every move as it happened. Ultimately though, a sense of apathy from the pack to take our sprinters to the finish forced their hand and the Dhuez riders did the majority of work chasing down the break. With Nate driving the pack for 3/4 of the final lap, the leaders advantage was closed to 10 seconds. When the bunch reformed the other team riders were newly invigorated and their energy reserves gave them the advantage in the drive to the line. As always Jordan Ross went down swinging and even after a tonne of work he finished solidly in 6th.
Well done team!
